TEAM MODUS - Frequently Asked Questions

Why a running team?
Running and the Modus45 workout have a lot in common. Runners who come to Modus regularly have reported better recovery, improved times, and less pain in their hips and knees. (While we don’t know why that is, we sure love hearing that information!) But more importantly, running is inherently social. So is Modus! With that said, we thought we’d bring the two disciplines together.

When are runs?
Runs are scheduled for twice a week, specific times TBD after Thursday, April 9.

Where do we meet?
Meet at Modus on 6th Street initially. After we move to the Warehouse Market in May, we can meet there.

How long are the runs?
Runs will range from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the week.

What if I’m too slow?
We have established Team Modus for ANYONE who wants to run! This means you! Don’t worry about your speed. That’s why you are here!

What if the group isn’t my speed?
No problem! You can still run on your own, do the workouts on your own, and join us for the races.

What if I can’t make the scheduled runs?
No problem! You can still run on your own. We will send you weekly workouts – just plan on joining us for the races.

What is the coaching for?
When it comes to running, most of us do it wrong. That’s why I’ve asked Steve Fluet to help us design weekly workouts. Steve is a nationally renowned running coach and is coming to Traverse City for a gait clinic to help all of us run more efficiently.

Can you tell us more about Steve Fluet?
Steve Fluet has been training endurance athletes since 1995. He has worked with a wide range of athletes from around the world. His program is for runners, triathletes, cyclist and other endurance athletes who seek efficient, intelligent training.

Steve graduated from Norwich University with a degree in sports medicine and physical education.
In his bio, Steve says, “I believe in intelligent training for running. With sport-specific strength and stamina training, an athlete consistently maintains output while training and/or racing. I start with the core, then move to the upper and lower body so it all works as a unit. Intelligent training includes a maximum of three to four running sessions per week, with specific goals set each time. I focus on efficient gait training, which decreases energy expenditure and increases endurance.”

How do we know what our workout is each week?
We will be using a special Facebook page for Team Modus communications as well as a weekly email blast for our group.

What races are we doing?
Modus has purchased numbers in the 5/10K races during this year’s Cherry Festival for our Team Modus members. We will also choose two more local races, to be determined.
